Lathe Math
Thanks to Tony and Claude's help, the lathe is finally set up. The variator transforms the single phase current to the 3-phase needed for the Schaublin motor. The switch box changes the motor rotation speed between the 750 and 1500 RPMS (CW & CCW), combined with the 3 motor belt positions and the 3 lathe belt positions, it offers 18 gears, plenty to spin your head around. To know the RPM of the lathe head, I used an old bike computer: I wanted the km/h displayed on the computer to be equal in value to the RPM of the lathe, with 1667mm of wheel circumference that does the trick (with a factor of 10 i.e. 38 km/h = 380 RPM)

Grace a l'aide de Tony et Claude, le tour tourne ! Le variateur transforme le monophase en triphase pour alimenter le moteur Schaublin. La boite de commutation permet de passer de 750 a 1500 tr/min (horaire et inverse) couplé aux 3 positions de courroie du moteur et aux 3 positions des poulies du tour, ca donne 18 vitesses, assez pour vous donner le tournis. Pour avoir la vitesse de rotation du mandrin en tr/min j'ai utilisé un vieux compteur de vélo, en mettant 1667mm de circonference de roue, la vitesse (en km/h) affichée sur le compteur est egale au nombre de tours par minute (avec un facteur 10 cad 38 km/h = 380 tr/min).
